About Pastor John

I’m retired, not done.

Retirement only means I don’t draw a paycheck anymore. It doesn’t mean the calling evaporated or that the part of me shaped by decades of ministry suddenly went quiet. I’m not trying to run a church, steer a staff, or relive the old days. But I still care about the local church, and I still care about the people who carry its weight.

Especially pastors.

Most pastors live with a level of discouragement they don’t talk about. They’re lonely in ways their congregations never see. And in all my years of ministry, I never once heard a pastor say, “I’m getting too much encouragement.” Not once.

So here’s what I can offer now — not as a job, not as a role, but as a man who’s been there and still cares.

I’ll listen without needing anything from you.

If you’re a pastor who already has a circle of friends where you can be honest, unguarded, and human, you’re in rare company. Most pastors don’t have that. Some don’t even have one person they can talk to without editing themselves.

I know what that feels like.

So if you need a place to unmask, vent, wonder out loud, or say the thing you can’t say anywhere else, I’ll listen. Quietly. Patiently. Without fixing you, judging you, or turning your words into a sermon illustration.

I won’t talk much until I’ve listened much.
And I’ll pray for you — not as a performance, but because I remember what it’s like to need it.

I’ll preach for you without making it about me.

If you need someone to fill the pulpit, I’m glad to help. I’m not coming in to impress your congregation or to show how I used to do things. I’m not trying to fit into your series or break out of it. I’m simply trying to serve.

I’ll ask what you’ve been preaching, what’s ahead, and what your people need right now. Then I’ll pray for you and for them until a sermon takes shape — one that fits the moment, not my ego.

I’m not trying to prove anything.
I’m just trying to give you a Sunday where you can breathe.

I’m retired, but I’m not finished. I still have something to give — just not the same way I used to.

If any of this helps you, I’m here.
If it doesn’t, that’s fine too.
I’m not trying to be needed.
I’m just trying to be faithful.
